Activity introduced by the Romans, viticulture in Alsace in the hills of the Vosges, characterized by the lowest rainfall in France, allowed the production of the most famous and most expensive wines in the Middle Ages. After the damage in Alsace caused by the Thirty Years War, the vineyard does not resume its growth until after the 1st World War. It was part of one of the first vineyards to obtain the label "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée".

Cleebourg Vineyard
Viticulture was introduced to Cleebourg by the Benedictine monks of Wissembourg in the 8th century. Removed during World War II, the vineyards were replanted from 1946. Bringing together the municipalities of Cleebourg, Rott, Oberhoffen-lès-Wissembourg and Steinseltz, the vineyard of 189 ha facing south and south-west allows to produce Pinot gris, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Auxerrois.
